iboss Service Notice: Google Drive Recategorization – Action May Be Required

iboss will be making a change to the website categorization for ‘drive.google.com’. Historically, that website has been categorized as ‘search engines’. This will be changed to ‘file sharing’ on May 25th, 2020. We normally do not provide notifications in advance of making a change to website categorizations as we’re constantly performing these updates on a daily basis. However, we realize that many customers rely on access to this website and a change like this may impact users, especially given the reliance on these tools during this pandemic. Once we make the change, access to drive.google.com for your users will depend on the existing category settings of their policy. If your organization relies on access to drive.google.com we recommend adding it to your allow list or policy layer in advance of this change. In contrast, if you’d like to ensure the website is blocked regardless of categorization, please add it to your block list or policy layer in advance.
